  1. Hello Scholars,
Remember, iron sharpens iron. I encourage you to challenge each others' ideas, responding not only to comments about your post, but to comments about your classmates' post. Have fun with it...and may the force be with you.

    Hello Class,

If you haven’t already checked the modification on the blog site (http://langartsjedi.blogspot.com), you must do so soon and begin blogging by July 1st. Here are two additional modifications that I think you will be happy about; I’ve decided to drop assignment #3. While I do want you to be able to identify, analyze, and explain the purpose of rhetorical devices used in text, speech, etc, I think it’s important that we begin discussing purpose together as a class before you write an essay on it.

I’ve also decided to cut part of the “exercises” required in the Rhetorical Device Handbook. You may stop after page #93. As mentioned the day of our meeting, for the most part, the exercises are very short. Whenever the text asks you to write a “brief essay,” a paragraph will due fine as long as you complete the exercise. Because this is a course on rhetoric, it is important that you learn all of the rhetorical devices presented in the text. You may therefore forge ahead if you so choose. I will be assigning additional sections of the book in the first week of school. Also, I will be testing you on the first 14 rhetorical devices the first day. The text implicitly explains the possible impact/purpose of each rhetorical devise on writing. Be sure to highlight and study these points. I a may ask a question like “Name one way this rhetorical device impacts a writing.” Please feel free to contact me with questions. I try to check my email at least twice a week.

On a slightly different note, we will be starting our course lessons day one. Granted, the vacation is super short; I feeling the sting of it myself; nonetheless, it is imperative that you begin with us so that you do not fall behind.

Continue enjoying your summer! (No, this isn’t sarcasm)
    -Hampton

p.s. I could not understand the handwriting for a few of the emails. If you know someone who is in our AP class, please forward them this email. Thank you.
